How Google shows titles and descriptions

    Title
Google truncates by pixel width, not character count. On desktop, titles over roughly 580 to 600 pixels are usually cut off. Wide letters like W and M take more room than i and l.
    Description
Descriptions are cut at roughly 920 pixels on desktop (about two lines) and a little less on mobile.
    Rewrites
Google may rewrite your title or show a different description if it thinks another part of the page answers the search better. A clear, accurate title and description make that less likely.

Pixel limits are approximate and Google changes its layout from time to time. Treat the bars as a guide, put the most important words first, and check the live result in Google Search Console.

Questions about the SERP Snippet Preview

How long should a title tag be?

Aim for about 50 to 60 characters, but the real limit is pixel width, around 580 to 600 pixels on desktop. Put the main keyword and the reason to click near the start.

How long should a meta description be?

Roughly 120 to 158 characters keeps most descriptions within the visible width on desktop and mobile. Write it like a short ad: what the page offers and why it is the best answer.

Does the meta description affect rankings?

Not directly. It affects how many people click your result, and more qualified clicks are the reason to write it well.

Why does Google show a different title for my page?

Google rewrites titles that are too long, stuffed with keywords, the same across many pages, or that do not match the page content. Make each title unique, accurate and concise.
